Significantly higher import prices in December 2010

The index of import prices was in December 2010 by 12 percent over the previous year. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) the highest annual rate since October 1981. In November 2010 the annual rate of change was therefore amount plus 10 percent, up 9.2 percent in October 2010. Compared with November 2010, the import price index had increased by 2.3 percent. Iron ore price was higher, namely 98.4 percent compared to December 2009.

The import prices for pig iron, steel and ferro alloys were, according to the current Destatis figures in December 2010 to 29.7 per cent higher than in the same month last year, compared with November 2010, they rose by 1.4 percent. Paying for non-ferrous metal ores, German importers had 37.9 percent more than in December 2009, compared to November 2010 became more expensive non-ferrous metal ores, much (plus 7.5 percent). Non-ferrous metals and their semi was in December 2010 compared to December 2009 more expensive by 32.4 percent (up 5 percent compared to November 2010).

For the nickel used for steel production had to be paid more than 51.3 percent in December 2009 (up 3.7 percent compared to November 2010), as further Destatis mittieot. The raw copper prices were up 41.4 percent year on year and increased in price by 10.8 percent from the previous month. Raw aluminum was more expensive compared to the same period by 24.2 percent (up 2.1 percent compared to November 2010).
